When I was new at teaching, one of
the students I admitted burned me. She didn’t perform as I expected and she
lied to me. I naively believed her and tried all I could to help her. By the
time I realize I was been played. I said to myself that I will never let any
student of mine get close to me again.
But I couldn’t sustain that mind-set.
First of all, it was unfair to other people I would teach in future. Why should
one person’s action affect how I treat another person? Second, I realised that
if I keep people at a distance (not allowing them come close to me), they might
not be able to hurt me, but they wouldn’t be able to help me either. Thirdly, I
got to understand that I have the right to control my feelings and I will never
allow what anyone does to me spoil or create a damage in my heart. Christ has
given me the right to be happy and I will forever be.
If you’ve been hurt or disappointed
in the past, please don’t let that negatively colour your attitude in future.
Sometimes, believing in people truly does bring out the best in people and you.
Remember, the glory of friendship
is not the outstretched hand, not the kindly smile, nor the joy of
companionship, it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when you
discover that someone else believes in you and is willing to trust you with a
friendship.
LEARN TO TRUST AND LOVE AGAIN
